Supported Platforms and Browsers

Better Piano Practice is entirely browser based. No downloads or plug-ins are required.

Desktop

Most modern browsers on are expected to work on desktop platforms - Windows, macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS.

  • Chrome (version 151 and later): the majority of our development & testing occurs in Chrome on Windows.
  • Chromium-based browsers: Edge, Opera, Brave, etc. are based on Chromium, and should behave identically
  • Firefox: Should work in Firefox 108+; fingering detection may not be available.
  • Safari: Not supported, as Safari does not support the WebMIDI API. Recorded sessions may still be viewed.

Android

Better Piano Practice is not optimized for mobile devices, but does work with some limitations:

  • Chrome (and Chromium-based browsers) on Android supports MIDI input and should generally work
  • Audio recording may not be reliable depending on the keyboard and recording device
  • Fingering detection using the camera is not supported on Android
  • Layout and visibility issues are expected

iOS

iOS browers are mandated to use mobile Safari's web platform implementation, and do not support the WebMIDI API. As a result, BPP is not available on iOS (for recording practice sessions).
